Moriones Festival is a Lenten festival in the province of Marinduque. It is considered as one of the most-attended festivals in the Philippines during lenten season. It starts from Palm Sunday until Easter Sunday with various activities happening in the different towns of Marinduque. One of the highlights of the festival is the "Via Crusis" held every Good Friday with a very dramatic re-enactment of the "Passion of Christ" along the streets of every town of Marinduque.

Marinduque Moriones Festival 2016

Moriones Festival in the Province of Marinduque is one of the most attended Lenten events in the Philippines. One of the highlights of the festival is the Via Crusis or Passion Play held every Good Friday with the re-enactment of the "Passion of Christ" and the story of Longinus, a Roman centurion who speared the crucified body of Jesus Christ.

"Senakulo" is a traditional theatrical presentation held during Lenten season in the Philippines. It is a dramatic presentation depicting the Passion of Jesus Christ: his trial, suffering and death. The word "Senakulo" was derived from the word Cenacle or the "Upper Room" which is the term used for the site of "The Last Supper". These passion plays are staple rituals and still being practiced in many provinces in the country during the Lenten season.

Time flies so fast when you're having fun. We didn't notice that it's already the last day of our 5-day Marinduque Adventure and we're about to go back home this afternoon. It's the 4th day of our 5-day Marinduque Adventure. Day 3 of our Marinduque Adventure started early to some of us as they climbed Mt. Malindig, while most of us, including me, chose to sleep until the break of dawn. We woke early to catch the sunrise at Maniwaya island on day 2 of our 5-day Marinduque Adventure. Still very sleepy, I managed to get up and experience one of the best sunrises I've seen so far. It is magical! The sky was filled with hues of orange and blue. I 'luv it! Really stunning! What a great way to start our day!

On our first day in Marinduque, the group composed of 13 went to Tres Reyes Islands in the town of Gasan. Strangers to each other, we boarded the hired jeepney going to the docking port of the boat that will bring us the first of the three islands - Gaspar Island. Along the way, we get to know each other, from then on, I knew that this will be one exciting trip.
