Tasting OMI BEEF, "One of Japan's Famous Wagyu Beef"

The Kansai Region in Japan is well-known for its cuisine. Shiga in particular (a prefecture in Japan) which forms part of the Kansai region in the western part of Honshu island is famous for its mouthwatering Omi Beef. It is one of Japan's beef products that have become famous brands themselves.

After touring Kyoto the whole day, for dinner on our 2nd day in Japan, we took the train and traveled for about 30 minutes to Yasu-shi in Shiga Prefecure to have a taste of their famous high quality wagyu, Omi Beef. It is considered as one of the best beef in Japan along with Kobe Beef from Hyogo Prefecture and Matsusaka Beef which comes from the Matsusaka region of Mie Prefecture. These famous wagyu breed comes from a specific breed of cattle and are named from where they come from. All these three Prefectures are located in Kansai Region. So, a trip to Osaka is the best way to have a taste of these three famous beef variants from Japan.

Jiku Kappo Sara is one of the best restaurants in Yasu-shi to have a taste of Omi Beef. They served us a special set of Omi Beef Steak which comes with 100g of Omi beef steak (which is so bitin! hahaha!), Tempura (prawns and vegetables), Sushi, Omi-rice, Chawanmushi, Sashimi and Miso Soup. This set meal costs 4,600 Yen, but you can order a middle set meal without the Sushi and Sashimi for only 3,900 Yen.

This is the first time I've tasted Omi Beef and I certainly loved it. This fine, fatty meat that has a "melt-in-your-mouth" texture is really good. You can surely enjoy its rich flavor and soft smooth texture as if melting in your mouth. Definitely a must-try when visiting Japan.

We ended our dinner with this yummy dessert of Lemon Sherbet with Matcha and Lemon Mochi.

So, if you're looking for a nice place to eat Omi Beef in Japan, travel to Yasu-shi in Shiga Prefecture and dine at Jiku Kappo Sara. Tasting Omi Beef will surely raise you standards when it comes to what beef should be.
