I've Been Wanting To Do This! And When I Saw This Wooden Bike, This Is What Happened...

I just used to see this wooden bike from Banaue in photos. When I saw it, I told myself, "I have to ride that bike when I get back to Banaue!" Luckily, when I re-visited Banaue earlier this month, I saw this wooden bike "parked" in front of a souvenir store near the Banaue Rice Terraces Viewpoint. After asking for permission from the lady manning the store if I could ride the bike, this is what happened.

Yesterday, while we were awaiting for our bus trip to Manila, I was surprised to see a group of foreign tourists visiting Banaue performing in front of Banaue Public Market. Locals and other tourists who were in the area gathered in front of them to watch as they perform several songs with their musical instruments. I was like, who are they? Honestly, I don't know them, but their performance was really awesome that they made the crowd really very happy. I said, "Ang saya dito sa Banaue!" It's really more fun in the Philippines!

TRAVEL TIP: How to Get to Banaue from Manila

Banaue is one of the major tourist destinations in Ifugao province. It is the main jump-off point for various tourist spots and attractions in Ifugao and Mountain Province. Travel time from Manila to Banaue is about 8 to 9 hours via North Luzon Expressway, then passing through the provinces of Nueva Ecija and Nueva Vizcaya. Most of the buses leave at night, bus fare is around 450 to 500 pesos, depending on which bus company you're taking. How to get to Banaue? It is very easy, here are your options.

Ifugao - Seeing the Banaue Rice Terraces, "A Childhood Dream Fulfilled!"

The Banaue Rice Terraces are the wonderful works of our ancestors in Ifugao province. Carved into the mountains some 2000 years ago, it is still being used to plant rice, vegetables and other crops. It's "a childhood dream come true" for me to see it as I grew up learning it from the Social Studies books I have in grade school. I am delighted to finally see it for myself.

Ifugao - Wandering Around Banaue

It took us about 9 hours to reach Banaue, the gateway to the world-renowned rice terraces of Ifugao province. Upon getting off the bus, cold weather and stunning view of the town welcomed us. The sun just started to shine, and the thick fog had begun to break. Awesome! It's my first time here and I'm so excited to finally set foot in Ifugao province!

I spent Holy Week and Araw ng Kagitingan holidays (April 5-9, 2012) with my friend in 3 provinces of the Cordillera Region - Ifugao, Mt. Province and Kalinga, my 58th, 59th and 60th provinces! We also had a side trip in Tuguegarao and Peñablanca, Cagayan before we head back home to Manila. We had fun exploring these provinces, trying out the food, learning new things about its culture and meeting warm and accommodating people.
