I've been to Zambales several times in the past, be it bumming on its stretches of gray-sand beaches with its enticing blue waters, learning how to surf, or just enjoying the view of its imposing mountain ranges. Knowing that there are still a lot to see in this province, we decided to experience its historical side by visiting former President Ramon Magsaysay's ancestral house as a side trip on our way back to Manila after a weekend of surfing in Liw-liwa.

Zambales - The Circle Hostel, a Backpacker's Haven in Liw-liwa

We went to Liw-liwa with only one accommodation in mind, The Circle Hostel. Basing on what we have read from the internet, it's the best option for budget travelers like us. So, upon reaching the hostel, we were accommodated by Ate Vangie and she discussed the various accommodation options they have.

Zambales - The Surfers of Liw-liwa

As we saw how big the waves are, we were a bit hesistant if we really want to surf. It's January, the swell is great during this time of the year in Zambales. But the waves made us excited! Woohoo! Okay, we got to try it here! Hahaha! But before we really get to do it, we took some time to just sit at the shore to relax and watch the local surfers in Liw-liwa ride the strongs waves.
Zambales - Surfing Weekend at Liw-Liwa, my 3rd Surfing Experience
We travelled to Liw-liwa to try surfing on this part of Zambales. So, on our 2nd day, we rented a surf board and requested a surfing instructor from the staff of The Circle Hostel. We then proceeded to the surfing area. We were amazed by the huge waves! It was quite early morning and there were already a few surfers trying out the morning swell.
Zambales - En Route to Liw-liwa Surfing Site
We were too lazy one Saturday morning. We were craving to go to the beach as it is so hot in Metro Manila. We really don't have any plans, we just want to go to the beach. Good thing I remembered reading an article in "Lokal Soul" about this unknown surfing spot in Zambales. Armed with what we have read, our restless feet led us to Liw-liwa in San Felipe, Zambales.
I Missed Climbing Mt. Kinabalu, the Roof of Southeast Asia

Last February, I won the contest of Intrepid Adventure Lifestyle. The prize is an all expense paid trip to Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia with Mt. Kinabalu Climb set on April 12-15, 2012. Woohoo! It was awarded to me a week after it was announced. From then on, I started to research about the complexity of the climb to prepare for it.

Negros Oriental - Strolling around Silliman University and Rizal Boulevard

Silliman University and Rizal Boulevard are two of the must-visit landmarks in Dumaguete City. After we have explored Casaroro falls, we went back to the city to have a feel on how things are going in this "university town" in Negros Oriental.
Negros Oriental - The Unique Beauty of Casaroro Falls

One of the most popular destination when visiting Dumaguete City is the Casaroro Falls in the town of Valencia, Negros Oriental. Considered to be the most photographed waterfall in the entire province, it is located just 9.4 kilometers west of Dumaguete City. Tucked in the rock crevices of the craggy Valencia mountains, the water flows and drops at a height of 100 feet to a deep, cold catch basin.
WHERE TO STAY IN DUMAGUETE: Harold's Mansion, a Backpacker's Accommodation in Dumaguete City

We safely arrived in Dumaguete City, after that stressful and vomit-filled afternoon ferry ride from Siquijor. Hahaha! We don't have any hotel in mind, so we asked recommendations form the tricycle driver that we hired from the port. The tricycle brought us to Harold's Mansion, we inquired about their accommodations and their room rate is just right to our budget. So, we decided to stay here for the next 36 hours before we go back to Manila.
