Pasalubong Suggestions from the Philippines

It is natural for us Filipinos to be thoughtful and always eager to share to our loved ones the joy of our travels. That is why, aside from great memories and awesome photos of our travels, we always want to bring home "something" from that memorable trips we had. Travelers often find it easy to load up on the usual and common "pasalubongs," like ref magnets of tourist destinations or key chains with the name of the city in cursive font. But that has always been the "usual pasalubong," that someone might already given to an office-mate, a friend or relative.

We woke up early on our 3rd and final day in Malaybalay City for a scheduled trek to the Bukidnon Provicial Tree Park. Located at the rear side of the provincial capitol grounds, we took a 10-minute tricycle ride to the jump-off point; fare is 8 pesos each. The tree park is a small hill also known as "Two-Tree Hill" because of the two tall trees at the top which can be seen from below. But due to the recent typhoon that passed by the city, only one tree remained at the peak.

I'm clueless as to what to see there; my friends just told me that there would be hiking and waterfalls. So we go... From Malaybalay City, we hired a multicab that brought us to CEDAR.

Bukidnon - Stunned by Manolo Fortich's Pineapple Plantations

The climate in Manolo Fortich is characterized by moderate dry season with average rainfall, very ideal for the cultivation of pineapples. It is for this reason that a huge company such as Del Monte put up their plantation in the province of Bukidnon. Considered as the biggest pineapple plantation in the Far East, it is one of the major attractions in this northern part of the province. Only 40 minutes away from the bustling commercial center of Cagayan de Oro City, one can enjoy a great view of Mt. Kitanglad along with vast tracks of pineapple-laden lands of Del Monte Philippines Incorporated.

It's day 3 of my Solo Northern Mindanao Adventure! And I'm going to try the zip lines at Dahilayan Adventure Park. Woohoo! I woke early to catch the first trip to Libona, Bukidnon. These jeepneys pass by Camp Phillips in the town of Manolo Fortich - the jump-off point for Dahilayan Adventure Park. From my hostel, I took a cab going to Gusa terminal (PHP 70) where jeepneys bound for Libona are stationed. I arrived an hour ahead of the first trip which is at 6:30 AM. So to kill some time, I had coffee and some biscuits for breakfast in a nearby eatery.
