You might be wondering, "is July 20, 2021 a holiday in the Philippines?"

The answer is yes! Last Thursday, President Rodrigo Duterte declared July 20, 2021 (Tuesday) as a regular holiday nationwide in observance of Eid'l Adha or the Feast of Sacrifice. According to Proclamation No. 1189 which was signed by Pres. Duterte, this holiday shall give our muslim borthers and sisters the time to observe Eid'l Adha, "subject to existing community quarantine and social distancing measures." Republic Act No. 9649 provides that Eid'l Adha shall be observed as a regular holiday in the Philippines.

Eid’l Adha (Eid al-Adha) also called "Feast of the Sacrifice" is one of the two greatest feasts of Islam celebrated worldwide. In the Islamic lunar calendar, Eidul Adha falls on the 10th day of the Dhu al-Hijjah lunar month; the actual date for Eid will be confirmed after moon sighting on Monday, August 21, the 29th day of the previous lunar month.
