Singapore is one of the most developed countries in Southeast Asia, and a favorite destination among Filipinos. Nestled at the tip of Malay Peninsula in Southeast Asia, it has a long history of progress - as an early fishing village, to the age of the Peranakan, up to this time as being one of the "Tiger Economies in Asia." If you're planning a trip to Singapore, this budget travel guide will help you plan your trip by providing useful information on how to get there, things to do, tourist spots and attractions, where to stay, DIY itinerary, budget, and more.

Travel Guide to Singapore

Singapore on a budget Travel Guide and Itinerary

Now, let's get started...

How to get to Singapore?

There are many airlines that offer several daily flights to Singapore coming from the major cities in the Philippines and Southeast Asia. In my previous travels to Singapore, I've tried Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific, and Scoot which we booked via the Traveloka App.

When booking your flights, I highly suggest that you book an early morning flight so you will arrive in Singapore early in the morning and have ample time to explore.

Also, to maximize your time in Singapore, take an evening flight to Manila or book your return flight late at night.

Changi Airport to Singapore City Center

Currently, Changi Airport has 4 terminals interconnected by free sky trains and shuttle buses. To get to the city center from any of the Changi Airport terminals, you could take the train, taxi, or hire a private transfer. For convenience, we opted to hire a private car airport transfer going to our hotel located in Chinatown area.

Klook Travel offers private airport transfers to and from Changi airport. You can book your arrival and departure airport transfers from this link: Changi Airport Transfers (SIN) for Singapore

Visa Requirements for Filipinos

Visa is not required for Filipinos to enter Singapore. You just need to have a valid passport with 6 months left before expiration. Philippines Passport holders are allowed to stay for up to 30 days Visa-free in Singapore.

Singapore Pocket Wifi Rental

How to stay connected in Singapore?

Before leaving the Philippines, be sure to activate your mobile carrier's roaming service, so you could still make/take calls and send/receive text messages, and use mobile data.

For internet connection, I highly suggest that you avail a portable travel WiFi which is more affordable than subscribing to mobile roaming service to use your mobile data. By having a portable travel WiFi, you don't need to change your mobile phone's sim card. You can still use your phone in receiving calls and text messages from the Philippines. With a portable travel WiFi, you can enjoy unlimited 4G internet service anywhere in Singapore, and you can share the internet connection up to 8 devices with your travel buddies. This is ideal if you're traveling with a group because you could also split the cost.

These pocket WiFi are very in-demand, so make sure that you reserve one before your flight to Singapore. You can reserve your handy and portable travel WiFi via Klook.com and just pick it up upon arrival in Singapore.

BOOK AND RESERVE HERE: 4G WiFi (SG Airport Pick Up) for Singapore

NOTE: Ready your credit for the device deposit of $200 USD upon claiming the pocket WIFi at the airport. Or you may also pay the deposit in cash.

How to get around the city?

If you wish to see Singapore's top tourist attractions you can avail of the Singapore City Sightseeing Tour which is a "hop on hop off" bus tour. With this, you can see and enjoy 33 tourist attractions and the best of Singapore on an open top double decker bus.

The Singapore Sightseeing Bus Tour is available for 1 day (Php 1,245) or 2 day pass (PHP 1,564). You can buy discounted tickets online via Klook.com. This is also ideal if you wish to explore Singapore's top tourist attractions at your own pace.

Alternatively, if you only have limited time or just want to visit specific attractions, you can also purchase a Singapore Tourist Pass which is a special type of EZ link card for tourists visiting Singapore. With the tourist pass you can enjoy unlimited MRT, LRT and Bus rides in Singapore. Please note that the pass does not includes rides in premium services such as Sentosa Express, RWS8, Fast Forward, Night Rider, and Night Owl buses. You can purchase it at selected TransitLink ticket offices at the airport or at MRT Stations.

The Singapore Tourist Pass comes in 3 options of a 1-Day, 2-Day or 3-Day pass. The refundable deposit of $10 SGD shall be given to you upon returning the card.

Singapore Botanic Garden

The first and only UNESCO World Heritage Site in Singapore and definitely a must-visit when traveling to Singapore. It's quite amusing to know that there's a huge garden such as this in the middle of a highly-developed city such as Singapore. As mentioned at the UNESCO'S Website: “Situated at the heart of the city of Singapore, the site demonstrates the evolution of a British tropical colonial botanic garden that has become a modern world-class scientific institution used for both conservation and education. The cultural landscape includes a rich variety of historic features, plantings and buildings that demonstrate the development of the garden since its creation in 1859. It has been an important centre for science, research and plant conservation, notably in connection with the cultivation of rubber plantations, in Southeast Asia since 1875.”

Gardens by the Bay Singapore

One of the most iconic and popular tourist destinations in Singapore. The Gardens by the Bay is a must-experience urban park in Singapore. Located on the edge of downtown Singapore near the Marina, it is a huge park spanning about 100 hectares of reclaimed land and is composed of several gardens showcasing a variety of plant species and flowers. Don't miss the amazing Supertrees, and a visit to the Flower Dome and Cloud Forest. BOOK YOUR TICKETS HERE

Singapore Travel Tips and Reminders

  • Travel time from Changi Airport to Singapore City Center is around 30 minutes. Plan your trip accordingly.
  • You can exchange your Philippine Peso or US Dollars in the money changers at the airport or at the city center. Exchange rate at the airport is low, it's better to change your money at the city center.
  • For electricity, most establishments use 3-pin square plugs and sockets at 220–240 V. Don't forget to bring a universal adapter.
  • If you're on a budget, don't eat in restaurants. It's best to look for hawkers where you could eat a decent meal for around $5 SGD. The best hawkers that I could suggest are the ones around Chinatown area for its wide selection of tasty and affordable meals.
  • Weather in Singapore is hot and humid. It is suggested that you wear light and breathable clothes. Also, don't forget to bring an umbrella or raincoat for occasional thunderstorms.
  • Singapore is a very walkable city. When exploring the city, you will certainly walk a lot. It is best to wear comfortable footwear.
  • Eating and drinking inside the bus and MRT is prohibited.
  • Chewing gum is not allowed in Singapore. Make sure you're not bringing-in any chewing gum when entering Singapore.
  • Cigarettes are too expensive in Singapore (around 400 pesos). You can bring cigarettes from the Philippines to Singapore, but don't bring too much. One opened pack and one sealed pack "may be" allowed.
  • GST refund can be availed by tourists on goods and services purchased in Singapore. Keep your receipts and refund it at the airport before your flight. This will save you more on travel expenses.
  • To save on travel expenses, book discounted tickets at Klook.com, join group tours, take the bus or the MRT, walk if you can, stay in hostels or budget hotels, and take advantage of flight seat sales and promos.
