Camiguin - Delighted to See Ancestral Houses

Honestly, I didn’t do much research before going to Camiguin. I never thought that I would find ancestral houses in this tiny island, just like what I saw in Silay, Taal, Boac and Vigan. Camiguin still has a number of striking and elaborate ancestral houses that date back to Spanish and American Colonial Periods. These houses can be seen as you pass through the island's well paved circumferential hi-way.

You could not imagine how delighted I was when I saw these houses still standing proud. So, while on our way to the different tourist spots in the island, I took every opportunity to snap a photo of these beautiful houses.

I always believe that heritage houses should be preserved for future generations to enjoy. Everyone should start thinking that each house is an important part of our history. It has been passed to us from previous generations and it is our responsibility to make sure that it'll be passed on to many more generations to come.

This is part of my Solo Northern Mindanao Adventure that happened last August 6-8, 2011. Camiguin is the 32nd province on my list and this Northern Mindanao adventure is my 7th solo trip.

  2. The houses are decidedly turn-of-the-century style. Like the houses of Pila, Laguna. Nice post, Mervs. :)
