Pinoy Festivals : Marinduque - Moriones Festival 2011 Experience (Teaser)

Moriones Festival is a week long celebration in the island of Marinduque that starts from Palm Sunday and ends on Easter Sunday. It is considered as one of the most colorful events in the Philippines, a re-enactment of the story of Longinus, a Roman centurion who speared the crucified body of Jesus Christ.

This holy week visit to Marinduque was set to be a 4-day trip, however, due to uncontrollable circumstances, we were not able to follow our itinerary and eventually decided to cut it down to 3 days.

Here’s a rundown of the places we visited, events we attended, the activities we did and the experiences we had on this trip:

Thank you to the wonderful people of Marinduque. I will definitely come back. True to its word, Marinduque is the heart of the Philippines!

I will be posting a detailed story on this 3-day Moriones Festival experience in the days to come. Watch out for it!

This happened last April 21-23, 2011 in Boac Marinduque. Here's a series of posts on this one of a kind Moriones Festival experience.
Thanks to Ajel and Julius for letting me use some of their photos in this series.

  26. At least every year, Moriones festival give credence to the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ to save us sinners. The faithfuls, visitors, tourists come to Marinduque to observe this religious festival. Their faiths at least have been nourished. This is good as far as I know. We become one in this holy lent everyone.
