Among the many appealing facets of Palawan – from the beauty laden set of lush nature to the white sandy beaches, breathtaking islands, and amazing natural wonders – the province also offers exotic and must-try locals delicacies that every traveler should experience.
Tamilok is a wood worm mollusk found in the mangroves or "bakawan" around the shores of Palawan. Although it is commonly called as "wood worm" or "ship worm" because it is found in decaying, rotten woods or thick mangrove tree trunks, it is technically a mollusk that belongs to the group of saltwater clams without a shell.
Considered as one of the most popular exotic delicacies in Palawan, Tamilok is cold, slimy, squirmy, and has a soft grayish body that is best eaten raw or kinilaw and dip in vinegar to add flavor. It actually tastes pretty good! It tastes like oyster but with a slimier texture and saltier tang.
One of the best ways to learn about a particular culture in the place you are visiting is by trying their local cuisines. As one of Palawan's famous delicacies, eating Tamilok will surely make your Palawan adventure exciting and more memorable! This is definitely a must-try and a must-experience when traveling to Palawan!
