BATANES TOURIST SPOTS: Spring of Youth (Rakuh-a-idi Spring) in Mahatao, Batanes

Batanes Tourist Spots and Attractions

Rakuh-a-idi Spring (also known as Spring of Youth or Fountain of Youth) in Mahatao, Batanes is one of the "not-so-well-known" tourist spots and attractions in Batanes that tourists should not miss when visiting the province. It is a natural spring pool overlooking the beach and affords a stunning view of Mount Iraya. The cold water spring comes from mountain which makes the swim at the Spring of Youth more enjoyable.

Batanes Tourist Spots and Attractions

Getting to Rakuh-a-idi Spring (Fountain of Youth) from Basco (the capital town of Batanes), you need to travel about 45 minutes by tricycle or private van to Diura Village. From there, you have to take a 30-minute hike from the fishing village to get to the spring. The hike is easy as there is already an established path that cuts through the site of a pre-Hispanic settlement.

TRAVEL TIP: For ease and convenience, you may avail a Spring of Youth Half Day Tour which includes lunch, entrance fee, round trip hotel transfer within the town of Basco, local English speaking guide and drinking water.

The water at the Spring of Youth is cold and clear. There's a large nipa hut near the pool where you can enjoy a picnic lunch. Just be sure to bring water and food as there is no store in the area. A toilet and bathroom with running water is also available.

There's also a small grotto and a waterfall at one side of the spring. Locals say that the water here makes them young. That's why it is also called "Fountain of Youth." :)
