Pinoy Festival: Pahiyas Festival 2013 Schedule of Activities, How To Get There and Things To Do


Pahiyas Festival is one of the most colorful festivals in the Philippines, it is held every May 15th in Lucban, Quezon, in honor of the patron saint of farmers, San Isidro Labrador. It showcases the town's abundant harvest with a grand display of colorful rice wafers (kiping), fruits, vegetables and handicrafts adorning every house participating in the festival.


It will just be a one day event, May 15, 2013 which falls on a Wednesday. Be sure to plan your trip ahead of time.

Pahiyas Festival 2013 Schedule of Activities
  • Morning Mass at San Isidro Labrador Church
  • Art and photo exhbit
  • Grand Parade featuring a parade of Carabaos, floats, marching bands and street dancers
  • Awarding of Best Pahiyas House Design and Decors during the afternoon
  • Best Lights Design in the evening
  • Fireworks Display and Band Performances

HOW TO GET TO LUCBAN, QUEZON

On Public Transportation

via Manila-Lucena-Lucban
From Manila, take a Lucena bound bus. There are buses that has daily trips to Lucena City, located along Buendia-Taft, Pasay-EDSA, EDSA-Kamuning in Quezon City, and Araneta Center in Cubao. Upon reaching Lucena Grand Central Terminal, take a Lucban bound jeepney or mini bus. It’s just around 45 minute ride from the grand terminal.

via Manila-Sta. Cruz-Lucban
Ride a bus going to Sta Cruz, Laguna. There are bus companies located in Cubao or Buendia-Taft Ave. that ply daily the Manila-Sta. Cruz route. Get-off at Sta. Cruz and take a jeepney bound for Lucban.

On Private Car

via South Luzon Expressway
Take the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) and take the Calamba exit. Pass through the towns of Calamba, Los Baños, Bay, Victoria, Pila, Sta Cruz, Pagsanjan, Cavinti, Luisiana and then to the town of Lucban. It is the first town in Quezon if you take this route.

THINGS TO DO IN LUCBAN
  • Munch on pancit habhab, grilled kiping, lucban longganisa and other local delicacies
  • Cam whoring at the beautifully decorated houses
  • Visit the Lucban Cathedral and Kamay ni Hesus Shrine
  • Bring home some pasalubong

  2. Maraming activities and concerts sa eve ng Pahiyas. By the time these programs end 3-4am, you go around and check last minutes decorations. The church opens before sunrise. That would be the perfect time to take pictures inside dahil wala pa masyadong tao. After sunrise, start taking pictures of the houses na dahil by 8AM, biglang bubuhos na ang turista at mahirap ng kumuha ng anggulo. Before 7am, you are done with the pictures and you can head to Kamay ni Hesus. You can return to Lucban bayan for kunch. The grand parade in the afternoon is not as grand as its name. Take picture while they are assembling and you can leave and visit the nearby town of Nagcarlan, known for its underground cemetery.

    5. Experience the cool climate in Lucban as well with the verdant scenery of Banahaw
