CATANDUANES TOURIST SPOTS: The Marvelous Cascades of Maribina Falls

After visiting Bato Church, we proceeded to our next destination - Maribina Falls. Also located in the municipality of Bato, it is one of the most popular and most accessible waterfalls in the province. The falls is about 5 meters high with marvelous gushing rapids of crystal-clear waters.

Named after the villages of Marinawa and Binanwahan, it is made of a series of strong cascades coming from the mountain top. Surrounded by lush-green vegetation, it is an ideal place for picnickers and weekenders.

We went there on a Sunday. The place is crowded. It was quite a challenge for my photographer friends to capture a nice photo of the falls. Hahaha! I highly suggest that you go here during weekdays or early morning if you want to have the falls all by yourselves.

Anyway, we just enjoyed our time here. Spending about an hour taking photos and seeing the locals enjoying the falls.

The falls is maintained by the local government of Bato. Upon paying the entrance fee, an official receipt will be issued.

Fees are as follow:
Entrance - Php 20.00 (Adult) and 10.00 (Children)
Cottage/Rest house - Php 150.00
Pavilion - Php 300.00

I didn't see any restaurant in the area but there is a small sari sari store near the entrance where you could buy some snacks. The toilet and shower rooms are not well kept, the administration should fix the facilities as it is needed by the visitors. Nonetheless, we had a grand time enjoying the strong cascades of the falls.

Maribina Falls is another attraction that shouldn't be missed when visiting Catanduanes.

HOW TO GET TO CATANDUANES

By Air: Cebu Pacific, Philippine Airlines and Zest Air offer direct flights from Manila to Virac, the capital of Catanduanes. Travel time is about an hour.

By Land and Sea: From Manila, take a bus bound for Legaspi City which takes about 10-12 hours. From there, take a jeepeney to Tabaco City port and take a RORO to Virac. Ferry leaves at 6:30 AM in Tobaco City and 1:00 PM from Virac daily. Fare is about Php 220.00 per person.

HOW TO GET TO MARIBINA FALLS

By Public Transportation: It is just 7 kilometers away from the capital town of Virac. You could take a jeepney bound for Bato and alight at the road leading to the falls then walk several meters from there. Alternatively, you can hire a tricycle for a special trip to the falls. You may contact Raymond at 0948-9328559 for your tricycle needs.

By Rented Vehicle: Due to the scarcity of transportation, I highly suggest that you rent a transportation in exploring the island. I recommend our driver, Kuya Chris Marasigan, you can contact him at 0929-1092780. The whole day tour includes Puraran Beach, PAGASA Weather Radar Station, Bato Church, Maribina Falls and Twin Rocks Resort. One day tour is at 2,500 pesos on his Isuzu Crosswind which could fit around 6-8 persons.

This is part of my Catanduanes-Caramoan trip that happened last March 24-26, 2012 with my friends Billy, Cris and Edmund. Catanduanes is the 57th province on my list and this trip is my 2nd time to visit Camarines Sur. We had an awesome time just hanging around and exploring the stunning sights of this island province in Bicol region. Join us as I continue my journey to visit all 80 provinces in the Philippines!
