Agusan del Sur - En Route to Bunawan Ecopark and Wildlife Reservation Center

I woke early on my 2nd day in Butuan City to catch the earliest bus going to Davao City. It will pass by the town of Bunawan, Agusan del Sur which is my destination on this day. I'm going to this town to see Lolong, the world's largest crocodile that resides in captivity at the Bunawan Ecopark and Wildlife Reservation Center.

From my accommodation, I took a tricycle to the City terminal where buses bound for different parts Mindanao make a stop over. At around 5:00 AM, I'm already aboard a bus bound for Davao. Fare from Butuan City to Bunawan is at 215 pesos.

It was still dark outside and nothing much to see. Due to lack of sleep, I quickly took a nap as soon as the bus started to move.

After an hour and a half, we reached the town of San Francisco (popularly called San Franz by the locals) for a 20-minute stop over. Some passengers had their breakfast while the others used the toilet. I went down of the bus to take some photos.

Another stop over was at the bus station at San Francisco town proper.

Then the journey continued through the well-paved national hi-way passing through communities and crop fields.

When we reached the town Bunawan after about an hour, I quickly saw the sign leading to the Bunawan Eco-park. But air-conditioned buses are only allowed to stop on bus terminals, I wasn't able to get down.

I had to wait for the bus to make a stop at the Bunawan overland bus terminal.

From there, I need to back track. I took a public van bound for San Franz and alighted at the road that leads to the eco-park at Barangay Consuelo. Fare is at 20 pesos.

Then I took a habal-habal that brought me to the park for 50 pesos (2-way).

It was a bumpy 15 minute ride on dirt road.

Watch out for my next posts on my encounter with Lolong and seeing the falls at the ecopark.

  2. We were supposed to go there when we passed by. Eh we were discouraged ng isang taga dun na hindi naman daw makikita si Lolong kasi naka-lubog parati. kainis! Pero okay lang kasi on OB kasi kami, and there was a meeting pa after the luncheon meeting. kaya hindi na kami nakapunta. Sana one of these days when I start project monitoring in the area. Hehehe.
