A Romantic Travel Date in Labadee

A Romantic Travel Date in Labadee

There are beautiful island getaways all across the Caribbean. Almost anywhere you choose to go in this wonderful part of the world offers sunkissed beaches, warm waters, and beautiful island paradise landscapes. But the best islands in the Caribbean for a romantic getaway are the smallest specks of land, hidden away in secret corners, the tiny private islands known only to an exclusive few.

Most beautiful and romantic of all of these private islands is Labadee. Accessible only to passengers of cruise ships from Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises, and Azamara Club Cruises, it is a truly unique gem in the Caribbean, an exclusive getaway that offers genuine romance and relaxation, and a once-in-a-lifetime vacation destination

Where is Labadee?

Labadee sits just off the north coast of Haiti, the country which shares the island of Hispaniola with the Dominican Republic. Labadee is close to the border of the Dominican Republic, and around 570 miles from Miami, where most cruises to the island depart from.

A Little History

The island is named after the Marquis de La Badie, a French explorer who was one of the first Europeans to settle on the island in the 17th century. Labadee was home to the indigenous Taino people before being colonized by Christopher Colombus on his first journey of exploration in 1492. During the 18th century it was held by the French as a sugar plantation, until Haiti declared its independence in 1804.

What Can You Do on Labadee?

Unsurprisingly, one of the main attractions of Labadee is its gorgeous, unspoilt beaches! There are four main stretches of sand that visitors to Labadee can enjoy. Adrenalin Beach, which has a swim-up bar floating in the shallow water; Columbus Cove, the furthest beach from the embarkation port; Nellie’s beach, which is hidden away to the south and the quietest and most private option; and Barefoot Beach, which is reserved for guests of the Grand Suites.

Labadee is also famous for its watersports. Kayaking, snorkeling, parasailing, and paddleboarding are all immensely popular, while the Arawak Water Park is an adult aquatic adventure playground, an obstacle course of artificial icebergs, trampolines, slides, and more.

You can also book sports fishing charters, luxury boat trips, or exciting snorkeling trips. And finally, there are a variety of charming cafes, mouthwatering restaurants, and chic bars dotted around the island to indulge your taste buds and relax after a hard day of...relaxation!
