WHERE TO EAT IN BAGUIO: Sage /saj/ Restaurant

Sage Restaurant in Baguio City

Sage (pronounced as saj) is one of the newest restaurants in Baguio City. Located at 95 Military Cut-off Road, it's a bit far from the heart of the city yet offers an awesome dining place that is easily accessible by car or by public transportation. Opened just a year ago, Sage Restaurant promises to offer sumptuous meals that would tickle every guest's most discriminate palate.

Upon entering the restaurant, I instantly fell in love with their charming interiors. The ambiance screams out comfort, relaxation, and serenity. It is based on the simplicity and coziness of a home which gives you a feeling of dining at the comforts of your own home.

For lunch during our Baguio Food Tour 2014 last March, we were able to sample on some great food that Sage Restaurant offers. Here are the dishes on their menu that we got to try:

Nachos Supreme Platter (PHP 220.00)

One of their Mexi-delights served on a huge serving plate, it is an ensemble of chili con carne, diced tomatoes, shredded lettuce, corn and olives. It was topped with grated cheese and drizzled with sour cream. It also comes with four different dips such classic salsa, cheese, Asian, and teriyaki.

Onion Rings (PHP 160.00)

A tower of crispy onion rings, deep fried to perfection paired with a salsa dip. A great way to start every meal at Sage.

Stuffed French Toast (PHP 110.00)

French toast with nutella and banana filling sprinkled with powdered sugar. I expected it to be sweet, but it comes short to what my sweet taste buds expected. But it was good.

Shrimp Pomelo with Sesame Dressing (PHP 180.00)

A Thai classic with a mixture of pomelo and prawns over mixed greens and drizzled with honey sesame dressing. I love the pomelo on the salad. This is definitely a must-try!

Shrimp in Pesto (PHP 180.00)

A pesto-based linguine dish with fresh shrimp sauteed in garlic and olive oil with parmesan cheese. I like this one as it is not oily and yet packed with rich flavors.

Chicken Chimichangas (PHP 130.00)

A combination of shredded chicken and potatoes wrapped in flour tortillas fried to a crisp and served with fresh salsa and ranch dressing. Chimichangas? Anu yun? Hahaha! Honestly, this is the first time I've tasted this dish so I really don't know how it really tastes. For this one, I love how the chicken inside the crispy tortilla was well cooked. Another must-try in Sage Restaurant's menu.

Barbecued Spareribs (PHP 240.00)

Fall-off-the-bones slab of marinated pork spareribs coated in sweet barbeque saucepan grilled to perfection and served with Java rice. The meat really falls off the bone and the sauce is very flavorful. What it lacks is the smokey char-broiled flavor. Nonetheless, it was good.

Creamy Bulalo Steak (PHP 280.00)

Mouthwatering beef shanks with mushroom gravy served with mashed potatoes. This dish is really something Sage can boast among their dishes. It was heavenly! Never leave Sage without ordering this.

Aside from these mouthwatering and sumptuous dishes, Sage also offers delectable desserts. As someone with a sweet tooth and drools over cakes and pastries, I was so delighted with the array of desserts they served us. I love all of them especially the Mango Tapioca.

Mango Tapioca (PHP 80.00) - A delightful combination of mangoes, tapioca sago and cream.
