Mountain Province - Stopover at Bay-yo Rice Terraces in Bontoc

Another stopover that shouldn't be missed when you're traveling to Sagada, Mountain Province from Banaue, Ifugao is the Bay-yo Rice Terraces. Located in the village of Bay-yo in the town of Bontoc, this lush green rice terraces in the southern slope of Mt. Polis is truly exceptional compared to the rice terraces I've seen in Banaue.

It does not have houses or any structures at the middle of the terraces. Houses are packed on one side of the cliff and the rice terraces on the other side with a breathtaking view of the mountain as backdrop.

This is my most favorite rice terraces among the terraces I've seen in Banaue, Sagada and Tinglayan. It may be smaller compared to the others but its location is very scenic and worth some photographs.

Don't miss this quick stop and be mesmerized by the charm of the Bay-yo Rice Terraces!

HOW TO GET THERE
We got to this rice terraces viewpoint during a stopover on our way to Sagada, Mountain Province. Most jeepneys en route to Sagada from Banaue stop here for a few minutes so you could see the rice terraces and take photos as well. You can read my post on how we got to Banaue, bus trip schedules and fare, here.

This is part of my Holy Week and Araw ng Kagitingan long weekend holiday trip in Ifugao, Mt. Province and Kalinga last April 5-9, 2012. Mountain Province, a landlocked province in the Cordillera Administrative Region is the 59th province on my list. We enjoyed the peace and serenity of Sagada and Bontoc, its rusty idyllic atmosphere, cool climate and most especially, the friendliness of the people. Join me as I continue my journey to visit all 80 province in the Philippines!

  2. I can just imagine, Mervs, if the houses down there used traditional materials and not modern ones, the view will be more amazing like how we saw it in old postcards.
