Cagayan - The Delectable Pancit Batil Patung, Tuguegarao's Best!

When visiting Tuguegarao City, you must not miss their specialty dish and everyone's favorite, Pancit Batil Patung. You know that you're in Tuguegarao City because there's a panciteria in almost every corner offering their versions of this famous Cagayan delicacy. It is perhaps the city in the Philippines with the most number of panciterias.

Batil means mix and patung means topping. Its basic ingredients include sauteed carabao beef, pork liver, egg, bean sprouts, sliced leeks, carrots, crushed pork-rind cracklings (chicharon), lots of onions and freshly-made flattened noodles (miki) with seasonings of soy sauce (toyo) and fish sauce (patis). The distinct ingredient of it is the egg placed on top and cooked by the heat of the pancit. Yummy!

It comes with a cup of kaldo or soup which is meant to be poured over the pancit or simply sipped while munching on it. Pancit Batil Patung will not be complete without the tasty soup. You can also add chopped red onions, calamansi and chili peppers to sooth your taste.

Upon arriving at Tuguegarao city from my spelunking experience in Callao Cave, I went to Jomar's Panciteria and ordered their super special pancit (PHP 70). I was surpised that it is huge enough for an appetite of two people. Woohoo! I slowly savored the freshly cooked pancit while observing the many people coming in and out of the panciteria. With its big serving, it took me a hard time to finish it. Hahaha! It's definitely very affordable and very filling.

So if you visit Tuguegarao City, don’t miss the Pancit Batil Patung. It’s one of the best pancit I've ever tasted! Mangan Tayun! (Let's Eat!)

Jomar's Panciteria
Diosdado Macapagal Ave.,
Tuguegarao City, Cagayan

To get there, just take a tricycle and ask the driver to bring you to Jomar's Panciteria. Fare is about 15 pesos and travel time is around 10 minutes from the city center.

This is part of my solo northern luzon adventure in Tuguegarao City and Peñablanca in Cagayan and in Tumauini and Cabagan in Isabela province that happened last November 5-7, 2011. Cagayan and Isabela are the 44th and 45th provinces on my list and this adventure is my 13th solo trip. Join me as I crossed a river and a bridge, explored a cave, visited churches, experienced local delicacies and walked through the streets of Tuguegarao City.

  7. yung origin nya... batil patung is from cagayan, while cabagan is from isabela.. magkaiba din ang noodles na ginagamit and yung cabagan is mas ma-sauce at mas maalat compared to pancit batil patung... here's my post on pancit cabagan...
