Sorsogon - A Hot and Steamy Affair in Irosin

Irosin is an entry and exit point to Bulusan Volcano National Park. Upon reaching this quiant town, I went to the public market and ordered fried tilapia and rice for lunch. Afterwhich, I took a tricyle and asked the driver to bring me to the hot springs in San Benon. This town is known for its hot springs as it sits at the base of one of the most active volcanoes in the country, Mt. Bulusan.

With all the activities and the travels I've been doing in the past days, a dip in a hot spring will definitely ease my aching body. I certainly deserve to relax and have a rejuvenating swim!

The travel from the town proper to the hot spring is around 20 minutes, through the national hi-way then turning right to Brgy. San Benon. Please note that there are unpaved roads before reaching San Mateo Hot and Cold Springs, so be prepared.

Mateo Hot and Cold Spring Resort is quite popular with its hot and cold springs in a natural setting. They have rooms where you can stay if you wish to spend overnight. They also have a canteen that serves food and several huts with grilling stations if you just want have a weekend bonding treat with your family and friends.

I paid the entrance fee of 35 pesos. Since I am alone, I asked the security guard if I could leave my things with him so I could enjoy the pool without any worries. Good thing he agreed! Thanks po!

The pool is hot at first, but after a few minutes of soaking myself, I got used to it.

The water is clear which allows you to see the bottom of the pool that is made up of stones. The sulfuric properties of the spring is quite relaxing.

I enjoyed the hot water as it relaxes my tired muscles, a great reward after experiencing two firsts in Sorsogon - top loading and kayaking!

On my way to this resort, I remember seeing another hot spring resort along the way. So, after about an hour and a half, I hopped into a tricycle to try another hot spring, the Nature Hot Spring Resort. It's just 5 minutes away and the fare is just 10 pesos.

The resort is quite new. It features swimming pools with hot to lukewarm water. Entrance fee is at 35 pesos.

Available around the pool are picnic cottages. They also have shower and dressing rooms, and a grilling station if you wish to grill some barbeque or fresh seafoods.

Accommodations are also available.

Rates are as follows:
12 NN - 12 MN - PHP 800
06 PM - 08 AM - PHP 600
*rooms are equiped with a televison set and aircon

At the time of my visit, they are constructing a big cabana which will house the massage area, an ideal place to unwind and have an more relaxed vacation.

The naturally heated water at the hot spring resorts in Irosin will certainly relax your muscles from all the stress. I highly recommend that when you're in Sorsogon, reward yourself with a great relaxation getaway by visiting Irosin's hot springs!

HOW TO GET THERE
From Sorsogon City, take a jeepney bound for Irosin and alight at the town proper. Travel time is about 45 minutes. From there, hire a tricycle to Brgy. San Benon and tell the driver to bring you to San Mateo Hot and Cold Spring or to Natural Hot Spring Resort. Travel time is about 20-25 minutes, fare is 50 pesos.

This is part of my solo adventure in Sorsogon that happened last October 21-23, 2011. Sorsogon is the 43rd province on my list. It's my 12th solo trip and marks my 4th time to set foot on Bicol Region (Region 5). Join me as I discover the different sights I saw, places I've conquered and activities I did in this southernmost province of Luzon.

  10. Nice blog ;-) I was just looking around to prepare myself for our Freedom Climb 2012 (Mt. Manabu) tomorrow June9-10.

As i continue scrolling down, the picture of San Mateo (A.K.A. San Benon) Hot Spring in Irosin, Sorsogon caught my attention. Then I realized that I'm already missin' my hometown. Irosin is a small town where people live their simple lives. Simple yet a very peaceful place.

You should've visited also the church located at the top of the hill with a huge grotto, passing by the stairs like of the Grotto in Baguio City. From there, you can almost see the whole town proper.

Anyway, thank you for visiting some parts of our town. Thank you also for this wonderful blog.

***This is actually my 1st time to comment in a blog ;-)
