Negros Occidental - Mambukal Resort in Murcia

I am quite sure that most of us want to take a break from our usual daily activities. Having not to think of anything but to commune with nature.

Mambukal Mountain Resort, a government-owned piece of paradise is a favorite vacation destination of local and foreign tourists since it is very accessible from Bacolod City, the capital city of Negros Occidental. It is located in the town of Murcia, some 31 km east of Bacolod city. With a land area of over 23.6 hectares, it is blessed with numerous beautiful natural resources and unparalleled scenic features.

Lies at about 1,200 feet above sea level, it serves as a gateway to the Mt. Kanlaon Volcano.

This is a perfect getaway for adventure seekers like me. It offers more than great encounters with nature, but an experience of a lifetime. You can try the Canopy Walk with its hanging bridges, challenge yourself on the Rock Climbing Wall, do boating in the lagoon, or try their "slide for life" (zipline). For more adventure, one can trek up to the seven falls where your endurance can truly be tested. I did the trekking up to the water falls and saw 5 out of the 7 water falls with the help of my guide, Joven.

If relaxation is what you’re after, there’s the swimming and dipping pools, bat, bird and firefly watching and spa treatments. You can also bring your kids and they will surely enjoy the butterfly garden and the kiddie pool.

Accommodation is available for small and big groups at a very affordable price. Room rates range from 600 pesos for a Tourist Lodge to 4,000 pesos for a Family Cottage with 2 bedrooms, living and dining rooms and a kitchen. You can also opt to set up your tent and camp for only 30 pesos per person.

I didn't bother to swim, the weather is not so good as it was raining from time to time. Tough it was just a half-day tour for me, I definitely had fun!

How to get there

The resort is around 30 minutes by private vehicle and 45 minutes by mini bus or jeepney from Bacolod City. In Libertad Terminal, take the “double tire” mini-buses going to Mambukal. Fare is around 30 pesos. Getting out is easy, mini buses are almost always available from Mambukal Resort going back to Bacolod City.

For Reservations

You may call:
Mambukal Reservation Office - (034) 709-0990 or (034) 433-8516

I recommend that you get Joven as your guide. He knows a lot about the resort as he is doing this for almost 8 years now.

This Negros Occidental solo trip happened last December 11-12, 2010. Here is a series of posts on my 2-day experience in one of the most progressive provinces in the country. Discover the places I've been to, the people I met, the food I tasted and the experience I gained in this memorable adventure.
