Aklan - How I got to Boracay from Roxas City

After a quick visit to Roxas City and Panay, Capiz, I took a passenger van bound for Kalibo, Aklan. Since I didn't have much sleep the previous night, I was quickly brought into slumber the moment our van left Roxas City. It took us almost 2 hours to reach Kalibo and fare is 100 pesos.

Upon arriving in Kalibo town proper, I took a tricycle (PHP 10) to the van terminal bound for Caticlan. Fare is at 90 pesos and travel time is also almost 2 hours.

It was already past 9:00 PM when we arrived at the Caticlan jetty port. Since I don't have a reservation at any hotel in Boracay, I decided to just stay for a night here in Caticlan.

There are a few hostels and lodging houses around the area, you'll find them several meters away from the port. I checked-in at Candice Hotel. They have very nice and spacious rooms with aircon, private toilet and bath and a television set. A night costs 400 pesos. For inquiries, you may call (036)2887529 or 0930-1284670 and look for Dhang.

I went back to the jetty port on my 2nd day in Caticlan, I'm now bound for the island of Boracay. I'm just a few minutes away from the world's famous beach of Boracay. Woohoo!

At the port, you have to pay several fees. Terminal fee is 50 pesos, Environmental fee is 75 and Boat ticket is 25 pesos. Ang daming gastos! Hehehe!

Travel time from Caticlan to the island of Boracay is just about 10-15 minutes. From the moment I arrived in the island, I looked for the tricycle terminal. I waited for other passengers to arrive so I won't "hire" the whole tricycle.

Since it's my first time here, I just told the driver to drop me at Station 2, from where I will start my quest to find an accommodation that will fit my budget. Fare is 25 pesos and travel time is about 15 minutes.

These are my first sight of the beach. Welcome to Boracay!

So, if you find airfares to Boracay (via Caticlan or Kalibo) is expensive, you may try this route. Take a flight from Manila to Roxas City and travel by land to Caticlan. This way, you'll be able to save on airfare and visit Roxas City as well.

This is part of my trip to Boracay Island in Malay, Aklan that happened last February 9-11, 2012. Aklan is the 51st province on my list and these activities happend on days 2, 3 and 4 of my "5-day Panay Island adventure". Join me as I explore the world-renowned island of Boracay!
