See official MalacaƱang Palace Proclamation below!

Many have been asking me, "is September 1, 2017 a holiday in the Philippines?"

According to Proclamation No. 50, s. 2016 issued by MalacaƱang Palace, "The proclamations declaring national holidays for Eid’l Fitr and Eid’l Adha will be issued soon after the dates of the Islamic holidays have been determined. The National Commission on Muslim Filipinos has been designated to inform the Office of the President of the actual dates when the holidays will fall."

September 1, 2017 Regular Holiday for Eid'l Adha in the Philippines

Eid’l Adha (Eid al-Adha) also called "Feast of the Sacrifice" is one of the two greatest feasts of Islam celebrated worldwide. In the Islamic lunar calendar, Eidul Adha falls on the 10th day of the Dhu al-Hijjah lunar month; the actual date for Eid will be confirmed after moon sighting on Monday, August 21, the 29th day of the previous lunar month.

As of this writing, MalacaƱang Palace has not yet issued a proclamation for a national holiday in observance of Eid'l Adha or "Feast of Sacrifice" celebrated by our Muslim brothers and sisters. But based on previous Eid'l Adha celebrations, it is expected to fall on September 1, 2017 (Friday).

With this, if Eidul Adha falls on a Friday, September 1, 2017, Filipinos will be enjoying 3 consecutive long weekends:
  • August 19 to 21, 2017 (Saturday-Monday) - Ninoy Aquino Day weekend
  • August 26 to 28, 2017 (Saturday-Monday) - National Heroes Day weekend
  • September 1 to 3, 2017 (Friday - Sunday) - Eid'l Adha weekend

UPDATE:

On August 29, 2017, President Rodrigo Duterte signed Proclamation 297 declaring Friday, September 1, 2017, as a Regular Holiday throughout the country in observance of Eid'L Adha (Feast of Sacrifice).
