When is the End of Ramadan (Eid’l Fitr) 2014 in the Philippines?

Ramadhan is the ninth month of the Hijra or the Islamic calendar and is one of the most special events among Muslims worldwide. Yearly, the government declares a national non-working holiday to give way for the celebration of the end of our Muslim brothers' and sisters' holy month of fasting. Unlike other national holidays in the Philippines, the End of Ramadan or Eid’l Fitr doesn't have a specific date. It also varies on the location as it is determined in accordance with the Islamic lunar calendar, or upon the sighting of a new moon by local religious leaders. As of this writing, the government has not yet declared the holiday for the celebration of End of Ramadan but it is expected to fall on July 28, 2014 (Monday). A possible long weekend!

According to Proclamation No. 665, s. 2013, Section 2, issued last year, "The proclamations declaring national holidays for the observance of Eid’l Fitr and Eidul Adha shall hereafter be issued after the approximate dates of the Islamic holidays have been determined in accordance with the Islamic calendar (Hijra) or the lunar calendar, or upon Islamic astronomical calculations, whichever is possible or convenient. To this end, the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) shall inform the Office of the President on which days the holidays shall respectively fall".

Malacañang is yet to announce the holiday. So, we have to wait until NCMF have formally determined the approximate date(s) for the celebration of Eid’l Fitr. This post shall be updated as soon as the government declares the national non-working holiday for the celebration of the End of Ramadan.
