WHERE TO EAT IN BAGUIO CITY: Chocolate de Batirol at Camp John Hay

I've been to Baguio City several times in the past, but I haven't been to Choco-late de Batirol. On our first day in Baguio City for the Baguio Food Tour 2013, we went to Chocolate de Batirol for breakfast. Located at a small and cozy nook hidden among the trees at the Igorot Park area (near Gate 2 of Camp John Hay and near Baguio Country Club), Choco-late de Batirol is a Filipino Cafe specializing in tsokolate drink made from local cacao beans.

This place had been a favorite hangout place of both tourists and locals wanting to enjoy hot, thick, bittersweet cup of hot choco anytime of the day. Their tsokolate drink is so good and will surely warm your day with every sip of their signature drink.

We were able to see how their chocolate drink is traditionally made using a copper pot where a wooden whisk or "batirol" is used to mix the tsokolate which makes it deliciously thick.

We were also served with their famous breakfast treats - Bibingka , Suman sa Lihia and the traditional-blend Chocolate de Batirol.

The Bibingka is a local rice cake cooked the traditional way on banana leaves. Topped with grated coconut, it is moist and soft. I really like it! Each serving costs PHP 105.00.

The Suman sa Lihia is a sticky rice cake topped with grated coconut and brown sugar. Each serving costs PHP 64.00.

We also had the traditional-blend Chocolate de Batirol. It is so creamy! I enjoyed it so much since it was really cold that morning. It also comes in other flavors such as orange, strawberry (Baguio Blend), cinnamon, choco mallows and almond. I also tasted the cinnamon flavor, but the traditional-blend is my favorite. Each serving of the traditional-blend tsokolate costs PHP 80.00.

Don't miss the place while you're in Baguio. I highly recommend this place to all those who like to have a delightful meal while enjoying the cozy and relaxing ambiance of nature. We certainly enjoyed our breakfast, feasting on these treats while catching-up on each others' lives. Chocolate de Batirol is certainly worth a visit with family and friends.
