It is a corporate social responsibility project of Isla Lipana & Co., the Philippine member firm of Price Waterhouse Coopers which aims to increase the awareness and appreciation of different sites in the country to foster both local and international interest and attention that may eventually increase economic activity.

There were 25 short-listed sites that went through online voting from June 26 to September 25, 2013, from which, the top 10 sites emerged as the "10 Philippine Gems". They are:
  1. Calaguas Island
  2. Lake Sebu
  3. Tubbataha Reefs and Natural Park
  4. Caramoan Islands
  5. Biri Island Rock Formations
  6. Mt. Kanlaon
  7. Danjugan Island
