Samar-Leyte - Catching the Sunset at San Juanico Bridge

After my quick afternoon trip to the town of Basey in Samar where I visited the town's centuries-old church and found the banig makers, I hopped on an ordinary bus bound for Tacloban City. I wanted to reach San Juanico Bridge in time for the sunset and to walk along the bridge again. I alighted the bus before reaching the foot of the bridge at the Samar side. The trip took just about 40 minutes from Basey to Sta. Rita, Samar.

I've passed along San Juanico Bridge for about 8 times already during my trips to Samar and Leyte provinces in the past. Still, the bridge never fails to amaze me everytime I pass by. It is truly a jaw-dropping moment everytime I see this bridge. For me, it's definitely the most beautiful bridge in the Philippines.

I've walked along this bridge in 2011 from Leyte side going to the Samar side. I could still remember how delighted and stunned I was during my first visit. You may read my previous post here.

Unfortunately, the weather didn't cooperate this time. Huge dark clouds are hovering around the area and the rain is already starting to fall. So, I just continued walking along the bridge's 2.16 kilometer span, savoring each moment, appreciating its beauty and hoping that the rain don't fall.

Before reaching the other side, an amazing reflection of the sun bursting with hues of blue and orange behind a mountain greeted me. I just uttered "WOW"! The view is really amazing! I stopped for about 10 minutes, taking photos and enjoying the awesome sight!

Though I wasn't able to get the sunset that I am wishing for, walking along San Juanico Bridge is still a rewarding experience.
