Cavite - Food, Fun, Fiesta and Experience, a Night inside a "Perya" in Kawit, Cavite

Last weekend, me and my high school friends had our monthly get-together, as well as to celebrate the birthday of one of our friends. We went to the house of the birthday celebrator in Kawit Cavite, where she prepared some food and drinks. Since the town fiesta is to be celebrated in 2 weeks time, across my friend's house is the "Perya". We took the time to visit it and have some fun riding one of the rides.

A town fiesta in the Philippines would never be complete without a "Perya" or carnival. I grew up in the 80's, and the perya is definitely a big part of my childhood memories. As a child, perya means fun and games, popcorn, cotton candy and a lot of good time.

I've been to Enchanted Kingdom, Star City, Fiesta Carnival and even Big Bang sa Alabang. But there is something about the Filipino perya that is so special to me. Maybe because the rides and games here are so much different. From caterpillar, horror train, octopus, shooting and popping the balloon games to quirky shows such as the sirena and babaeng ahas. I actually believed that a mermaid really exists because of the perya. Hahaha!

As one of our favorite rides when we were still kids, we rode the caterpillar (25 pesos per ride) and screamed to death. Bwahahaha!

The perya is indeed part of Filipino culture and most of our childhood. So if you happen to attend a town fiesta, look for the perya and enjoy the fun and excitement with its games and rides.

I really have so many fond memories of perya when I was still a kid. How about you? When was the last time you went to a perya? What is your most unforgettable experience?

Photos were taken using cellphone cameras. Thanks to Mark for lending me some of his photos.

My last perya experience was in Coron around this time last year. :p We were playing the dice game exclusively. Haha. High stakes betting meant betting 20 pesos! LOL. Not bad, I won 600 after an hour of playing. Not a bad way to spend the night in between days of diving.
