Aklan - A Walk in the Lush Mangroves at Kalibo's Bakhawan Eco Park

During my recent trip to Kalibo, Aklan for the Ati-atihan Festival, we were able to do a side trip to the Bakhawan Eco-Park located at Barangay Bachaw Sur, Kalibo Aklan. It's a 220-hectare Mangrove forest of reclaimed land created by the Kalibo Save the Mangrove Association.

Together with my friends, Eric, Rob, Kirk and Ton, we walked through the 1.3 KM bamboo trail that goes through the lush mangrove forest. It was a bit scary at first as the bamboo bridge seems to be shaky, but somehow after a few meters, you'll get used to it. Hahaha! Just enjoy it! It's part of the adventure!

Our eyes feasted on lush mangrove forest! It is so nice! A perfect place to just relax and commune with nature!

Acclaimed by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization as "One of the exemplary forest managed in the whole of Asia and the Pacific", Kalibo should be very proud for it!

It took us about 30 minutes to reach the end of the trail with a beautiful view of the sea greeting us. We rested for about 30 minutes while having some "kwentuhan" about blogging and photography.

Entrance fee is 20 pesos each for adults and 15 pesos for students and Senior Citizens. They are open from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. There's a Canteen and a Gift Shop near the entrance if you need to buy some souvenirs or refreshments.

HOW TO GET THERE
It can easily be reached by a tricycle ride from anywhere in Kalibo. We paid 20 pesos each for a one-way trip to the Eco-Park. It is advised to arrange for a return trip with the tricycle driver as the park is not regularly passed through by public vehicles. We paid 140 pesos for the return trip to the town proper including the waiting time.
