Mindoro Occidental - The Capital Municipality of Mamburao

Where is Mamburao? (Photo from wikipilipinas.org)

Mamburao is the capital municipality of Occidental Mindoro, a 2nd class municipality with a population of 34,487 people (2007 census) and has 20,344 registered voters (2010). It has a land area of approximately 33,950 hectares. It is located on the northern part of Occidental Mindoro, on its west is the town of Paluan, on the north is Abra de Ilog and on the southeast id the municipality of Sta. Cruz.

From our overnight stay in Pandan Island, we decided to spend the last day of our "3-day escape" in this town. A 3-hour bus ride from Sablayan brought us in this quiet town. Tough it is the capital of the province, there's nothing much to see here.

Here are some of the interesting places we visited:

Our Lady of the Pillar Parish

There are only two ATM machines in the whole province Mamburao (Landbank and Philippine National Bank), they are both found in Mamburao. When I tried to withdraw cash from it, it was unsuccessful. So, be sure to bring enough money as ATM machines are very limited in Occidental Mindoro.

UPDATE (03/15/2011) - this is to correct my post above saying that there are only two ATM machines in the whole province. The error was brought up by a comment of an anonymous user.

There are other banks located in San Jose City, I "assume" that ATM machines are available there.

According to Wikipedia: San Jose is the center of entertainment and business in the province. Major banks such as Philippine National Bank (PNB), United Coconut Planters Bank (UCPB), Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP), Allied Bank, Metrobank, Landbank, Philippine Veterans Bank, have local branches and even fast food chain Jollibee has started operations in San Jose.

This 3-day escape to the land of Tamaraws and Mangyans happened last January 14-16, 2011. Here is a series of posts on our trip to one of the most underrated tourist destinations in our country, Occidental Mindoro. Discover the places we've been to, the people we met, the food we tasted and the experience we gained in this remarkable escapade.
