Laguna Road Trip

Because of our unsuccessful climb of Mt. Kalisungan, we decided to do a road trip around the historic and beautiful province of Laguna, which boasts to have one of the Philippines' incredibly beautiful countryside sceneries.

From Calauan, we took the jeepney bound to San Pablo City and alight at the town proper. Took some pictures at the San Pablo Cathedral before proceeding to Liliw.

on our way to San Pablo City

@ San Pablo Cathedral

We took the jeepney from San Pablo City going to Majayjay. Passing thru the towns of Rizal and Nagcarlan, I can already feel how to live in a countryside: no traffic, fresh air and all.

We want to celebrate Alex's Birthday with an overnight swimming in one of the resorts nearby. As suggested by a girl we met inside the jeepney, we checked on "Batis ng Liliw" in Liliw Laguna, unfortunately it wasn't that good as we expected it to be. So hindi kami tumuloy, nag picture-picture nalang kami. Hahaha!!!

Batis ng Liliw

We ride again a jeepney, now going back to Nagcarlan. Bumaba kami sa "Nagcarlan Resort" located in Poblacion 1. We didn't go inside because the view of it from the outside is not that appealing to our group. Hay...

Nagcarlan Resort

Then we decided to check on "Villa Gregoria Terrace Resort" also in Nagcarlan. Looks like this this is the perfect resort for us to have Alex's Birthday bash.

Villa Gregoria Terrace Resort

We got a room good for 6 persons which costs Php 1,800 pesos per night. Great deal! Murang mura na yun. Considering na ang ganda ng amenities nila. They have very clean and spacious rooms, numerous swimming pools, videoke machines, billiard tables and more. So dito na nga kami nag celebrate ng birthday ni Alex. Swimming, inuman, picture-picture, kwentuhan, asaran, tawanan...

Happy Birthday Alex!!!

Dinner time...

Nomo pa!!! Hehehe!

Bheng, Alex and Mitch...

On day 2, I volunteered to cook the breakfast, we had rice, eggs, noodles and corned beef.

Wahhhhhh!!! Eto ang aming mga "wacky" shots!!! hehehe!!!

Before we left Villa Gregoria at around 10:00 AM, picture-picture muna kami sa resort.

So, we continued our road trip by visiting Nagcarlan and Majayjay's famous landmarks before heading towards Lucban Quezon. Few minutes away from the resort, you will find these sites:

Underground Cemetery, Nagcarlan – a one-of-a-kind 18th century walled cemetery with wrought iron gates. A tiled walkway leads to an underground crypt were Filipino revolutionaries were said to have plotted against the Spanish rule. (Source)

Nagcarlan Presidencia (Nagcarlan Municipal Hall) - The municipality of NAGCARLAN is located 99 kilometers from Manila through San Pablo. It can also be reached via Sta. Cruz, the capital town of Laguna. It is bounded on the north by the municipalities of Victoria, Pila and Liliw; on the east by municipality of Liliw; on the south by the munipalities of Rizal,Calauan and San Pablo. Nagcarlan town proper or poblacion is accessible to all types of land vehicles plying from Sta. Cruz, Laguna and San Pablo City, and fairly accessible from Calauan and Lucban roads as well (Source)

Simbahan ng San Bartolome - This church is one of the oldest existing church worth visiting in Nagcarlan, one of the towns on the south eastern part of Laguna. One thing making this church visited by many is the famous big old bell up the belfry. Local movie shoots are being held up the belfry as well. Local TV series "kampanerang kuba" shooting scenes up there that became popular in the Philippines. (Source)

After all the picture taking, we took a jeepney going to Majayjay. Just ask the locals to find the jeepney terminal, fare is Php 14.00.

Upon reaching Majayjay, we visited St. Gregory Church, unfortunately it is closed, so we were not able to see the interiors of the church. Nakuntento nalang kami sa picture-taking sa labas.

St. Gregory Church, Majayjay – One of the oldest churches in the country built in 1575 with a giant antique bell reputed to be the oldest. Houses antique relief saint statues made and brought from Spain. (Source)

Summary:
From Manila, we went to Bay passing thru San Pedro, Biñan, Sta Rosa and Cabuyao via the South Luzon Expressway; then to Calamba and Los Baños. Then we proceeded to Victoria and then Calauan. Since hindi natuloy ang aming pag-akyat, pumunta kami ng San Pablo City to get a ride going to Liliw passing thru Rizal and Nagcarlan. But we went back and decided to spend our night in Nagcarlan. On the 2nd day, on our way to Lucban Quezon, we went first to Majayjay passing thru Liliw to get a ride going to Lucban. Then on our way back to Manila, from Lucban Quezon, we took the jeepney bound for Sta. Cruz passing thru Luisiana, Cavinti and Pagsanjan. Sa Sta Cruz na kami sumakay ng bus pa-Buendia. Hay, halos ikutin na namin ang buong western Laguna. But still, there are other towns that are yet to be explored, like Paete, Lumban, Pakil, Siniloan, Famy and Mabitac. Maybe in our climb sa Mt. Romelo / Mt. Famy, baka pwede kami mag side trip sa mga towns na yan... Hehehe!!!

I'll be posting our Lucban Quezon side(trip) later.
